What will happen after mining the last bitcoin?

There are only 21 million bitcoins, and already in June 2022 there were less than 19 million coins in circulation. Thus, less than 1.9 million remain – which means that more than 90% have already been mined.

So, what happens after the limit is reached?

After the number of bitcoins reaches the limit, there will be no more new coins. Blocks will still be spawned and processed, and miners will still receive their bonuses. But most likely in the form of transaction processing bonuses.

The closer the limit, the higher the price. Bitcoin’s limitations and value will make it an investment commodity. Therefore, retail investors and hodlers will try to accumulate bitcoins in their wallets. Their actions will further increase the already high value of Bitcoin.

One of the future options for Bitcoin is that it will be used for savings rather than regular purchases like precious metals or stocks.
